A MESSAGE ABOUT TRAFFIC SAFETY AT ECOLE BELLEVUE SCHOOL

Dear Families,

A heartfelt thank you to Peace Officer Derek Burns and RCMP Staff Sergeant Malcolm Callihoo for speaking to our school community about traffic safety. Officer Burns’ presentation was especially helpful and informative.

Unfortunately, we continue to have significant traffic concerns during drop-off and pick-up times, particularly in the mornings. While we understand that mornings can be hectic, student and family safety must come first.

We kindly ask you to take a few minutes to carefully read the following important reminders. Please also share this information with anyone who helps transport your child to or from school.

 General Safety Reminders

  • No U-Turns: U-turns are illegal in school zones. Please do not make them at any time.
  • Follow the Speed Limit: The school zone speed limit is 30 km/h. We have seen drivers going 40–50 km/h, which puts children at risk.
  • Kiss & Go Zone: This area is for quick drop-offs only. Please do not park or leave your vehicle. If your child needs help getting to their door, please park elsewhere and walk them.

Crosswalk Guidelines

  • Always come to a complete stop when the crossing guard steps into the street.
  • Do not roll forward or enter the crosswalk until the crossing guard has safely returned to the sidewalk.
  • Do not park in or near the crosswalk zone marked with yellow paint. This area must remain clear to ensure proper visibility and safety.
    • Please note: The yellow paint does not indicate the legally required 5 meters from a crosswalk. It simply outlines the crosswalk zone. Vehicles must be parked at least 5 meters away from the crosswalk to comply with the law and ensure safety.

 Bus Lane & Back Alley

  • Do not use the bus lane or back alley for dropping off or picking up students under any circumstance.
  • Please use the Kiss & Go Zone, park along 50th Avenue (excluding the Kiss & Go area), or use the Community Centre parking lot — generously provided for our use.

 A Community Effort

We are fortunate to have ample safe parking options. Please be kind and respectful to staff who are helping manage traffic. Negative or aggressive behavior makes a difficult job harder — and puts our students’ safety at risk.

Our goal is simple: to ensure every child arrives and leaves school safely each day. Thank you for doing your part.

If you have any questions or concerns, I welcome you to reach out.

Sincerely,
Mme El-Khatib

TERRY FOX WALK /PIE IN THE FACE

TERRY FOX

Terry Fox Pie in the Face Fundraiser!

We’re excited to announce our annual Pie in the Face Fundraiser in honour of Terry Fox!

Can you believe our school has raised over $50,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation over the years? Let’s keep that amazing spirit going!

How it works:

  • Bring a toonie for Terry (or more if you'd like to donate extra!).
  • With each donation, students can enter their name into a staff member’s jar for a chance to pie them in the face!

Event Details:
 Friday, September 26
 2:30 PM
 Back Hill

It’s always a super fun event, full of laughter and school spirit.
Our brave "pie victims" so far include:
Ms. El-Khatib, Mme Harry, Mr. Olsen, Mme Gylander—and possibly more to come!

But that’s not all!

We’re also honoured to welcome a Terry Fox Ambassador who will be visiting our school to speak to students during the first week of October. This is a special opportunity to hear personal stories and learn more about Terry’s legacy of hope, courage, and determination.

Please join us on the back hill for some fun—and help us continue to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
